Abstract

The National Online Vehicle Identification System (NOVIS) uses metallurgical fingerprints as features to verify the identity of a vehicle. This paper provides an overview of the process used to determine the most appropriate algorithms. We use the recommended algorithms to perform various experiments to extract the optimal verification threshold and finally to construct a verifier. Results are presented from the experiments as conducted on a large dataset. Verification results are excellent, indicating the power of metallurgical fingerprints as unique features.
