Abstract
The advancing digitalisation does not pause even for traditionally analogue processes. For example, in addition to the inspection of high-voltage lines by foot or by helicopter, the latest drones and their increasingly attractive functionalities are used. The UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles or drones) independently fly a defined route over the overhead lines, document the condition of the assets and transmit the data to the backend after a successful mission. Here, specially trained image recognition software is used to check the data collection and the employee receives high-resolution images of detected anomalies with information on their type and importance. Fully automated. Without getting their feet wet - without deafening aircraft noise - without the danger of having to climb into the masts themselves. Even the partially automated inspection process is now only necessary for rare special cases. This technology thus delivers a major contribution to work safety. The approach illustrated here goes far beyond the conventional “drone process”, where employees on site use the aircraft to perform spot checks. The focus is clearly on autonomous beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) and the associated compliance with applicable laws as well as data analysis with AI.
