Abstract

ABSTRACT Self healing of cracks in concrete is investigated through different experimental techniques. An experimental program, based on the ageing of pre-cracked specimens and the characterization of their mechanical behaviour, is thus performed. The research work is mainly carried out on a model material (an UHPC). The mechanical results, a fast recovery of initial stiffness and a slow improvement of flexural resistance, are correlated with investigations carried out on the newly formed crystals in the crack. Acoustic emission permits to characterize the micro-cracking processes of these crystals in the crack, and microscopic investigations establish a link between the products and the mechanical tests.
