Abstract

Prostate biopsies will continue to represent one of the most common urologic procedures performed in the United States. However, infectious complications attributable to transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsies pose a significant risk for patients and create a burden through increased intensity of care and higher costs to the healthcare system. Our study found substantive three-fold variation in infectious complications causing emergency room visits or hospital admissions on a state-level analysis.
