Abstract

We would like to thank Dr. Goldfarb and the editorial board for their insightful commentary. This surgical approach has become the standard of practice at our institution for patients with symptomatic autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease who need a kidney transplant. Our center has a strong emphasis on living donation and preemptive transplantation as the primary treatment for end-stage kidney disease.1 This is particularly suited for this autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease patient population since the progression to end-stage renal disease is usually slow in this group.
