Abstract

In the present paper we reported the finding of bulbospongiosus muscle (BSM) histology in patients with bulbar urethral strictures. The histologic assessment of the blood vessels, the neural integrity and the BSM itself were analyzed. There were 2 groups of patients where tissue for analysis was harvested. The experimental group (the stricture group) with bulbar urethral stricture undergoing urethroplasty and the control group which were patients undergoing perineal urethrostomy such as hypospadias cripples, penile cancer, or infections. The results showed only a change in blood vessel density. The blood vessels density is the only parameter that showed a significant difference favoring the control group. The report represented the first of its kind in the literature and we believe that the finding of this paper is of great interest to reconstructive urologists. We appreciate and agree with several points of the editorial comment.
