Abstract

The changing face of the television industry in Australia, and globally, highlights the need for a broader, better planned media policy construction, not subject to short-term economic and political pressures. Deregulatory policies have already had considerable impact on ownership and control and will eventually be reflected in the range and form of programs available to Australian audiences. The recent upheavals in the television industry reveal a shifting relationship between the Government and the marketplace.
