Abstract

Gibberellin A1 uptake into mother fronds of Lemna paucicostata 6746 and its translocation to the daughter fronds was measured by the agar block technique. The uptake rate and the accumulation ratio after saturation of uptake are higher than in the long-day plant Lemna gibba Gl (compare HARTUNG and KANDELER, 1976). Furthermore, the daughter fronds of Lemna paucicostata possess a distinct dominance over the mother fronds in respect to hormone distribution within the plant: gibberellin concentration in the daughter fronds reaches the twofold to threefold of that in the mother fronds. A similar enrichment of the hormone in the daughter fronds was not observed with Lemna gibba. Irradiation with far-red light during 10 minutes at the beginning of the daiLy dark period, which enhanced the gibberellin accumulation in Lemna gibba, was ineffective in Lemna paucicostata.
