Abstract

Abstract Although a vast body of literature exists on working women and married working women, in particular, very little research has been done on the attitudes of young unmarrieds towards the married working woman. The aim was to determine the attitudes of white South African students towards the married working woman. Factor analysis was used to develop a set of scales that would measure the students' attitudes. Two major aspects were measured: (a) the students' orientation towards the married working woman; and (b) the students' perception of parental attitudes towards the married working woman. The sample was drawn from the student population of two Afrikaans universities. The results of the data analysis indicated that the main influence on the students' orientation to the married working woman was their perception of parental attitudes towards a married working woman.
