Abstract

Six experiments failed to demonstrate resistance to infection withFasciola hepatica in rabbits, rats or mice, following vaccination with metabolic products obtained from these flukes while they were maintainedin vitro. One of these experiments was an attempt to reproduce the earlier work described by Lang (1976). Variations in the parameters in the other experiments included differences in the maturity of the flukes, the methods used to maintain them and in the preparation of the vaccine. The strain of rats used is known to be capable of developing resistance toF. hepatica.
