Abstract

The best pacing mode in sick sinus syndrome (SSS) is uncertain.1 In patients with normal atrioventricular (AV) conduction, single-chamber atrial (AAI) pacing might be superior to dual-chamber (DDDR) pacing because of a lower incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and better preservation of left ventricular function. 2,3 However, the The Danish Multicenter Randomized Trial on Single Lead Atrial Pacing vs Dual Chamber Pacing in Sick Sinus Syndrome (DANPACE) trial suggested an increased risk of AF and reoperation with AAI pacing.
