Atomic collisions with antiprotons present and future programs

Abstract

Experimental results are discussed for keV–MeV protons (p) and antiprotons ( p ) penetrating gases and solids. Large differences are found in ionisation and energy loss. These experimental results have led to new theoretical developments. Also the emitted X-rays and electrons from p impact have been investigated. The very first channelling effects for p have been seen. Very recently a new p -facility has been approved by CERN. Here new possibilities concerning atomic collision experiments with low energy antiproton beams will be presented.
