Abstract

The continuous atomic-absorption cross section of lithium and sodium vapors has been measured between 600 and 1000 A using photoelectric techniques. Curves and tables are presented of the atomic-absorption cross section versus energy from their series limits to 600 A. A comparison is made between these results and recent theoretical estimates. The conclusion is that theory and experiment are in poor agreement for sodium at photon energies above 7 eV.
