Abstract
The article gives an introduction to a concept of music therapy taking atmosphere as its orientation. This concept was developed in practical terms within the field of many years of experience with dementia patients and theoretically grounded by the author (Sonntag 2013). The concept centers on an aesthetic understanding of therapy which aims to shape therapeutic atmospheres. The article presents the practical context of the concept and outlines the research methodology used to develop it. Theoretical references are indicated and insights into their content and structure are given. Case vignettes exemplify the underlying world of music therapy in residential care of dementia patients.
