Abstract
This report is the first of two reports concerning the information content derived by using a simple solar spectrometer combined with an efficient data logging and computational system in atmospheric monitoring. A brief description of the system and of the experimental procedure is given, as well as how columnar aerosol size distributions may be inferred by applying a numeric inversion technique to measured values of optical depths. Results for some selected days are presented and discussed on the basis of the iteration technique and the sensitivity of the derived distribution to assumed values of refractive index.
