Abstract

This work studied the interest of young people between 12 and 18 years for physical activity as a leisure option in recreational equipments. As theoretical categories were established relations between youth and recreation, the influence of physical activities on leisure and the use of the leisure equipment. As a methodological procedure, it was adopted a qualitative research with the application of semi-structured interviews among 15 young practioners from the Social Service of Commerce (SESC), and a manager linked to the equipment’s physical activity department. The results showed a strong relationship of young people with physical activity, especially in collective sports, and that this relation is highlighted by the mass media. Furthermore, young people prefer to practice physical activities in the equipment, however, in SESC the managers feel that is necessary to develop more projects to reach this public.
