Abstract
Alterations of the dopaminergic neurotransmitter system (DAS) in schizophrenia have been studied post mortem as well as in vivo with PET and SPECT techniques. We describe a new semiquantitative technique for assessment of DAS laterality by means of I-123-IBZM SPECT. We compared DAS laterality with functional neurophysiological parameters derived from qEEG recordings. Highly significant correlations between DAS asymmetry and EEG amplitude changes in response to sensory motor tasks were found. These results are in line with current concepts of the DAS.
