Abstract
Abstract Dichotic pairs of English nouns and piano tones were presented to 24 right-handed subjects. Reaction time and accuracy to diotic probe items following each pair was recorded. The results indicated that the initial asymmetries consisted of a right earadvantage for tones and a left ear advantage for words. With repeated exposure to the stimuli, however, the expected advantages emerged. The results are discussed in terms of differen processing strategies available independently to the right and left hemispheres.
