Abstract

The possibility to advantageously exploit the asymmetric diffraction geometry of bent perfect crystals was studied with the aim of further increasing the detector signal and/or resolution of the strain diffractometer in Studsvik. It was proved that, in the case of strain diffractometers, the asymmetric diffraction geometry of the bent perfect crystal monochromator with output-beam extension can be considerably superior to the asymmetric geometry with output-beam compression usually used in powder diffractometry.
