Abstract
Baeyer-Villiger (B-V) oxidation, first reported by Adolf von Baeyer and Victor Villiger in 1899, are a highly efficient reaction for the preparation of lactones and esters. These compounds are useful intermediates for the synthesis of natural products and bioactive compounds. In recent years, metal complexes catalysis and organocatalysis for asymmetric B-V oxidation has made great progress, even though the realization of high enantioselectivity mainly rely on enzyme catalysis at present. In this chapter, a description was provided for asymmetric B-V oxidation using metal complexes and organic molecules as catalysts.
