Abstract

Asymmetric allylic alkylation (AAA) and related reactions have become a flexible method for forming C-X bonds under mild reaction conditions. Therefore, a lot of attention has been paid to the development of new ligands, strategies, nucleophiles, and allyl electrophiles in the past number of years. This chapter presents a thorough and insightful analysis of AAA-related reactions over the most recent 5years (January 2018–August 2022). It has been organized into a general introduction followed by sections on designing ligands, the different kinds of nucleophiles used, cyclization, and decarboxylative reactions. The AAA involving carbon nucleophiles has been further divided based on the characteristics of both the metal (Pd, Rh, Ir, Cu, Ni) and organocatalyzed methods. The protocol of each reaction is presented with a brief analysis of its benefits and drawbacks, along with emphasizing some of the more intriguing transition states and mechanistic manifolds.
