Abstract

Many patients with cardiovascular disease exhibit depressive symptoms and are treated with antidepressants. The literature has long suggested concerns regarding adverse effects of tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) on the heart, including risk of arrhythmias. A recent study examined the relationship between antidepressants and adverse cardiovascular events in elderly patients with a history of cardiovascular disease.
