Abstract

This paper explores the problem of assigning a job load to heterogeneous processing capacities in a distributed system when multiple design objectives are in conflict. It presents a two-phased methodology to assign load interactively so that overall utility of the system can be maximized. The uniqueness of an optimal assignment policy is proved by using a nonlinear programming technique. The proposed method may be applied in modeling load assignments for computer, telecommunication and manufacturing systems. A numerical example is solved to demonstrate the suitability of the method.
