Abstract

In India, wind energy production has increased at a rapid rate in the last few years due to recent advancements and inventions of new technologies in the field of wind energy. Assessment of wind power is the crucial step and most time-consuming for wind farm set up at any location across the globe. This quantitative research is aimed at evaluating the feasibility of wind to electricity production at an altitude of 10, 50, 100, and 150 m at four locations, namely Bhopal, Ujjain, Indore, and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Twice a day recorded wind speed of previous five years (Jan 2013-Dec 2017) at 10 m height, acquired from a local meteorological office, were utilized to get the corresponding wind power density available by means of the two-parameter Weibull distribution technique. After a thorough analysis of wind power assessment of four studied locations, the lowermost and uppermost wind power density was noticed, as 0.82 and 380 W/m<sup>2</sup> for Jabalpur and Indore locations, respectively, in Madhya Pradesh. The research provides the evidence in a quantitative way for decision-making for the installation of the wind turbines for the electric current generation.
