Abstract
The skin is the largest organ and reflects the Chhaya (aura) and Prabha (luster) of the body. Skin complexity and homeostasis have been influenced by numerous environmental changes. Skin is the demarcation between the internal and external environment. Many factors affect skin health like the status of diet, hygiene, habitat, sedentary lifestyle etc. In this era, skin disease incidence is increasing in tropical and developing areas. The Ayurvedic lexicon contains several references to skin conditions. The description of Twaka roga (skin disease) has mentioned on the basis of Doshik dominance. Kushtha roga appears due to Dosh-Dushya Sammurchhana (Amalgamation of Dosh-Dushya) including tri-Dosha, Twaka (skin), Rakta (blood), Mams (muscular part) Dhatu (tissue) and Lasika (fluid). Registered patients were selected for diagnosis of skin disease. Diseases were diagnosed by signs and symptoms on the basis of color, hardness, spreading, secretion, pain, elevation, burning sensation and itching. The affected part was assessed on the basis of compendia described with contemporary science and a photo was taken. On the basis of ancient knowledge different Twaka roga identified with the basic principle of Ayurveda. The Kushtha roga are Mandal Kushtha, Dadru, Shwitra, Pama, vicharchika, vipadika, charmdala, charmakushtha, kunakha, sheetpitta, yuvanpidika and vyanga these are categorized into dosha character in the lesion.
