Abstract

Experiment was carried out under controlled condition in a soil bin containing silty clay loam soil to study the effects of varying speed, disc angle, depth of cut, soil moisture on the power, energy and torque of a driven disc. During the test, a powered disc fixed at 94 rpm was tested with three disc angles of 25°, 30° and 35°; three forward speeds of 2, 3 and 4 km.h-1; three moisture levels of 8-10%, 13-15% and 18-20% (d.b.); and three levels of depth 100 mm, 125 mm and 150 mm. It was observed that a minimum 2.29 kW of power was required at disc angle of 300 , soil moisture content 8-10%, depth of cut-off 100 mm and forward speed of 2 km.h-1. At forward speed of 4 km.h-1, minimum energy requirement was 10.69 Wh. The average increase in torque requirement was 21.62% and 68.46% for forward speed of 3 km.h-1 and 4 km.h-1as compared to 2 km.h-1. It was observed that disc angle, forwarded speed, soil moisture content, depth of cut had significant effect on power, energy and torque requirement. It was also found that the least specific energy was required at a disc angle of 30° and forward speed of 4 km.h-1.
