Abstract

Industrial projects have a profound impact on society and environment in terms of risks, hazards and causing threat to humans, animals as well as plants due to the pollution caused by them. The main sources of air pollution are vehicle emissions, large-scale construction activities, industry, biomass burning, fuel adulteration and traffic congestion. This is an effort to assess the industrial air pollution near Hyderabad city (Deccan) through emission inventory of nearby industrial sources. Emission inventory comprises the type of industry, type of fuel, pollutant emission factor and point source characteristics such as stack height, stack diameter, exit-gas velocityand exit-gas temperature. The pollutant emission load is computed using meteorological data, pollutant emission factor and fuel consumption. Concentrations of the major pollutants from the industry are calculated using an Air Quality Model (AERMOD). The isopleths of these pollutant concentrations are superimposed on the study area map. The concentrations of SO2, NO2 and PM10 are predicted for the month June 2021 as 44.63μg/m3, 31.48μg/m3 and 33.796μg/m3 respectively. Similarly, for the month of August 2021, predicted values are 18.28μg/m3, 20.39μg/m3 and 25.30μg/m3. It is noticed that the pollutant concentrations are higher in June compared to the pollutant concentrations predicted in August month.
