Abstract

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is a common treatment-resistant condition with symptoms of prostatitis, lack of evidence of a bacterial infection in expressed prostatic secretions, urine post-prostatic massage, or semen. When there is a high content of leukocytes in these secretions, an inflammatory ?PPS (National Institutes of Health (NIN) category IIIA) is diagnosed, whereas if they are normal a non-inflammatory CPPS (NIN category IIIB) is diagnosed.
