Abstract

Mild traumatic brain injuries or concussions are a frequent occurrence in both sports and non-sport related activities. Fortunately, the majority of patients recover without significant complications but there is a sizeable portion of patients who have symptoms beyond the expected recovery period. The sports medicine physician and other healthcare providers working with this population need to be knowledgeable of the causes of persistent symptoms post-concussion. This article reviews the common causes of these symptoms and the evidence for the various treatment modalities currently available.
