The study was undertaken in a large municipality department in eThekweni (Durban), South Africa. A sample of 108 participants was drawn using the cluster sampling technique. In this quantitative, cross-sectional, hypothesis-testing methodology, data was collected using a questionnaire whose psychometric properties of validity and reliability were statistically assessed using Factor Analysis and Cronbachs Coefficient Alpha respectively. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicate that there is only a moderate level of workplace spirituality in this public sector organization with spirituality being the greatest at the individual level in terms of meaningfulness of work, followed by the group level relating to sense of community and lastly, the organizational level in terms of alignment with organizational values. Evidently, the elements of workplace spirituality have not yet been embraced by this public sector institution. Recommendations are presented, which when carefully implemented, has the potential to bring about a more effective implementation of workplace spirituality at the individual, group and organizational levels.
