Abstract

The Sengkang light rail transit (LRT) system is the second LRT system in Singapore which was opened for revenue service on 18 Jan 2002. The LRT comprises the East Loop and West Loop of about 5km and 8km tracks respectively. The East Loop consists of 5 LRT stations and the West Loop consists of 8 LRT stations. There is one LRT interchange station which is integrated with the North-East line (NEL) and Sengkang bus-interchange to provide seamless transfer for the commuters. The LRT is operated on a driverless and single-train configuration. A depot was provided for both the Sengkang LRT and the future Punggol LRT for maintenance and stabling of the trains. This paper describes the aspects of site testing & commissioning of power systems for rail transit system (RTS) with Sengkang LRT as a case study. The paper outlines the major tests conducted for Sengkang LRT to ensure the operation and safety requirements of the power systems are met prior to the revenue service.
