Abstract
Methods are described for rearing Dioryctria abietella (Denis & Schiffermuller) through 2 successive generations on an artificial medium under aseptic conditions. Comparison with previous rearings under nonaseptic conditions revealed that microorganisms on the surface of the medium contributed little or nothing to the nutrition of larvae; however, they did cause decreased survival.
