Abstract

Based on Pedro Serra’s argument (2019) about the models of suddenness in literary modernity, the essay proposes a comparative analysis of “Alumbramento”, by Manuel Bandeira, and “Matinal”, by Paulo Henriques Britto, in order to investigate not only the content of the instant in two moments of Brazilian lyric, but also – and above all – their modes of formalization. Finally, a general reading hypothesis is put forward for Paulo Henriques Britto’s poetry, considered both in its language and its historicity.
