Abstract

The British government affirmed its determination to deal with the finances of organizedcrime, including the finances of trafficking in human beings, through dealing with “thesubstantial illegal profits of traffickers”, “attacking the profit of traffickers and slaves through greater seizure of goods and financial investigation ”(HM Government, 2015: 22) andtaking measures to ensure that modern slavery does not reward the perpetrators of thecrime. The purpose of this article, which is based on several sources including interviewswith law enforcement officers and other experts, British police intelligence reports andopen sources, is to provide initial observations on the issue of financial investigation ofhuman traffickers in the United Kingdom and assess how much the British government’sstated intention to combat human trafficking is actually being realized.
