Abstract

Sergei Prokofiev’s piano concertos became a significant contribution to the world art. The innovation of the musical language, high technical complexity, original form designs, the complex nature of musical images cause a number of performing and pedagogical problems. Thus, the Second Concerto combines the reliance on the classical traditions and the national Russian flavour. The richness of the content and the variety of techniques give rise to the Прикладные исследования, технологии 135 virtuoso character of the piano part. Within the pedagogical process, it is necessary to orient students to the full coverage of the form and expressiveness of performance. The purpose of the paper is to reveal the artistic and performing features of Prokofiev’s concertos and suggest some pedagogical approaches to studying them in the piano class. Disclosing the significance of the piano works by S. Prokofiev in the world musical culture, revealing the innovativeness of the composer’s musical language and finding a way to master it in the piano class, defining the main pedagogical approaches to technical mastery of Prokofiev’s piano concertos are the main tasks of the paper.
