Abstract
The history of higher artistic and pedagogical education begins in Leningrad in the late 1950s. The Faculty of Art and Graphics was founded at the Leningrad Herzen Pedagogical Institute. The faculty combined the previous e orts of teachers in the eld of history, theory, and methods of training of visual arts teachers. The biographies of the people who stood at the origins of the Faculty of Art and Graphics are almost forgotten today. However, they are important for modern art studies. On the basis of archival materials, portraits of the rst heads of the faculty, who determined its development in the early 1960s, have been recreated in this paper.
