Abstract

Areca husk fibre composites were manufactured at different fibre fraction to analyze role of fibre fraction on wear behavior of the composites. Further, fibre was treated with 1% NaOH solution and composites were manufactured. The wear behavior was analyzed at 300 rpm speed under 10 N, 20 N and 30 N load. The sample was subjected to wear testing for duration of 10 min. The tribological study revealed that, the wear resistance is maximum at 50% fibre fraction for both untreated and alkali treated fibre composite. Wear rate of the samples increased with increasing load applied on samples. SEM analysis indicates the breakdown of wear resistance of the samples at higher fibre fractions and at higher load applied on the samples revealing the best one for future applications.
