Abstract
Addiction treatment trauma theory and the connections between female addiction patterns and interpersonal violence are central clinical issues in current practice. This paper argues for the inclusion of these specialized areas in family therapy and other professional training. An account of the author's personal, political and professional route toward an understanding of interpersonal violence culminates in her model of clinical assessment and treatment. This training model integrates family systems and psychodynamic theory as well as advocating the uses of self-help groups.
