Abstract

AbstractFour species of the isopod family Arcturidae (Valvifera) are recorded from the Caribbean Sea of Colombia. Astacilla tayronae n.sp. is described. Astacilla cymodocea MENZIES & GLYNN, 1968, an obligate associate of seagrass, and Edwinjoycea horologium MENZIES & KRUCZYNSKI, 1983 are redescribed. Edwinjoycinae subfam. nov. is established for Edwinjoycea. Astacilla regina KENSLEY, 1984 is considered a junior synonym of Arcturella spinata MENZIES & KRUCZYNSKI, 1983. An additional description is provided for A. spinata, with particular reference to its varibility and discussion of the possible synonymy with Arcturella sawayae MOREIRA, 1973 from Brazil. The shallow‐water Arcturidae (0–200 m) from the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico are reviewed.
