Abstract

The Church of the Presentation of the Lord in Plavnica represents a very interesting sacral building in terms of structural and historical development. It has undergone several structural modifications, including changes to the church furnishings since its foundation in the early 14th century until the present day. In the exterior and interior of the building, with the exception of the Romanesque style, the influences of the Victorian styles – Gothic, Baroque and Classical – can be seen. Despite the undeniable monumental values and historical significance of this sacral building, which exceeds the regional context, the current and past historiographical writings have paid minimal attention to the construction and historical development of this precious object. This study attempts to fill the gap in the research of the subject, which with the help of primary and secondary sources from period and contemporary literature, maps and other visual documents, presents the construction-historical development of the Roman Catholic Church of the Presentation of the Lord in Plavnica from its construction to the present day.
