Abstract
The Aquifer Exemption program was created by the US Environmental Protection Agency in 1980 as part of the Safe Drinking Water Act's Underground Injection Control program. Concerns about the ability of the exemption process to protect underground sources of drinking water have brought the program back into the limelight.
