Abstract

A preparation method of the aqueous dispersions of merocyanine J-aggregates was refined to achieve better transparency. By using these dispersions, the J-aggregates were doped in silica bulk gels by a sol–gel method. The obtained bulk gels also had a high transparency and J-aggregates were introduced uniformly into the silica matrix. The preparation procedures are precisely described together with the optical properties. By maintaining the bulk gel transparency and the uniformity of doping, we attempted to increase the concentration of the dye. The achieved concentration of 0.41 mmol/L was 6-fold higher than that reported previously.
