Abstract
With the Technology Assessment Act becoming law in the USA, a mechanism was set into motion which will have wide repercussions in every industry: any major innovation has to be appropriately evaluated before it can be introduced on the US market. In this article, technological assessment is approached from a manufacturing company viewpoint and seen as a specific application of technological forecasting techniques. The author presents a detailed account of a typical TA procedure composed of three separate assessments—economic, ecological and consumer—of a single product.
