Abstract

This article describes the use of web-based, interactive learning modules in the principles of economics course. The learning modules introduce students to important, historical economic events while providing real-world application of the economic theory presented in class. Each module is designed to supplement and complement the economic theory development of standard introductory textbooks. The learning modules apply a variety of technological tools including Dreamweaver and Javascript to create the website, Macromedia Flash to build the interactive learning components, Fireworks for the graphic designs and I-Movies for the video clips. The fusion of economic theory, historical examples, and technology results in virtual laboratory modules as economics is explored through timelines, movable graphics, data explorations, audio and video clips, slide shows, games, and other interactive tasks.
