Abstract

With improvement in understanding of science and technological developments, there has been tremendous advancements in molecular cloning technologies. This has helped in the foraying of recombinant DNA technology into various fields, even those which play a major impact in day-to-day life. Healthcare sector, sustainable environment, and agriculture are some of the fields where the application of RDT has been profound. In the healthcare sector, RDT plays a very important role in development of biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, gene therapy, molecular diagnostics, etc. In the environmental sector, several bioremediation techniques and bioindicators have been developed using RDT. A major contribution of RDT in the agricultural sciences has been nutritional enhancement, tolerant crops and better yield of crops. Besides these, a wide variety of industries make use of this technology to manufacture their products. In this chapter, we take a quick look at the applications of the RDT across different domains.
