Abstract

Optical technology is a promising solution to support large-capacity, high-quality and high-efficiency wireless communications. The application scenarios mainly include radio over fiber (RoF), microwave-photonics (MWP) and optical wireless communication (OWC) systems, forming a large-capacity and broad-band wireless communication system. In this paper, we give a brief introduction of our recent research efforts on the optical technologies for wireless communications. In RoF systems, we have proposed two highly-compressed mobile fronthaul schemes for effective and large-capacity transmission in wireless access networks. In MWP systems, we have proposed self-interference cancellation of in-band full-duplex (IBFD) schemes for broadband and effective wireless communications. In OWC systems, we design a novel bidirectional full-duplex RF/free space optics (FSO) wireless access and backhaul architecture aided by optical technology for high-capacity wireless communications.
