Abstract

Fungal polysaccharides are synthesized by many species of fungi, but researchers׳ attention is mainly focused on the Asco‐ and Basidiomycota phyla. Due to their bioactive properties like antibacterial, antiviral and anticancer effect, antioxidative and hepatoprotective properties, and anti-coagulant and immunomodulating activity, fungal polysaccharides are being explored for various biomedical and industrial applications. This review presents the most important applications of bioactive fungal polysaccharides e.g., in medicine and pharmaceutical industry, cosmetics, food and nutraceutical industry, and agriculture.
