Abstract

Objective To discuss on the application effect of weekly notes by senior in nursing management of patient-nurse communication. Methods A total of 30 senior nurses were asked to keep weekly notes. The format and templates of weekly notes were formulated by the Delphi method, and the notes included recording time, typical cases, experience and signature. Every senior nurse needed to keep the notes and the whole process was observed. We used general perceived self-efficacy scale (GSES) to evaluate the senior nurses before and after keeping weekly notes for 1 year and found out the differences. Results Before (3.07±0.33) and after keeping the weekly notes for 1 year (3.31±0.28), there were significant differences among total scores of GSES (t=-2.992, P<0.01), and 30 senior nurses collected 845 cases about treatment (62.01%), care (3.43%), medical examination (11.48%) and logistics service (15.15%) for typical non-satisfactions of patients by weekly notes. Conclusions Weekly notes can be beneficial for senior nurses to raise their self-efficacy, promote the improvements of medical service quality and processes. The typical cases could be used as training materials of nurse-patient communication for other nurses. Key words: Senior nurses; Nurse-patient communication; Self-efficacy; Patient′s satisfaction; Weekly notes
