Abstract

While normal crystal growth by the flux method relies on cooling through a several hundred degree range, attention is drawn to the fact that the same effect can be achieved by evaporation of the flux. The special advantages of such a method for growing variable valence oxides and solid solutions is discussed. In 2O 3, Cr 2O 3, Fe 2O 3, TiO 2 and VO 2 have been grown.
