Abstract

The electron spin resonance data on vacancies and impurity defects in rock-forming quartz were used in the tasks of geological correlation of the polymetamorphic Precambrian strata of a drilling area of the Kola Superdeep Borehole SG-3. The dependences of the system of impurity-related Al-, Ge-, Ti-centers and proper structural defects in quartz from the SG-3 section on the bedding depth and on petrogenesis of the Precambrian host rocks were estimated. It has been demonstrated that the impurity structural defects in rock-forming quartz can serve as a genetic mark of metamorphic rocks of the Precambrian formation complexes and as one of the criteria for subdivision and correlation of deep strata of the early Precambrian, exposed by the SG-3 section.
